Arcópoli calls for solidarity to LGBT community in Italy Print E-mail

Arcópoli, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Organization of the Politécnica  and Complutense Universities of Madrid calls every single person committed to Human Rights and to solidarity to concentrate on Friday 27 November at 18h00 in front of the Italian Embassy in Madrid, on Calle Juan Bravo 14.

In Arcópoli we would like to express in this way our commitment to the Italian people and to equality, after the Italian parliament's refusal to include hate to different sexual orientations as aggravating in their Penal Code. The debate in the Parliament was followed by an increase in homophobic and transphobic attacks in Italy.

According to Arcigay, the biggest LGBT association in Italy, there has been more than 70 acts of homophobic violence, including  assaults with baseball bats or  throwing of incendiary devices at a nightclub in Rome. Arcigay also communicates 8 extortions, 7 cases of vandalism and 10 murders as Brenda's case, a trans girl involved in a case of political extortion.

Because of all this Arcópoli is calling to concentrate for keeping 5 minutes of silence in order to denounce the situation of our colleagues in Italy. After that a statement will be read and a symbolic delivery of a first aid's kit will be delivered. This material has been used by Spanish LGBT associations in order to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.

This event enjoys the cooperation of the International Area of FELGTB and the support of our entire federation, FELGTB.

The event will be on Friday, 27 November at 18h00
